Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in the Young Adult Creative Writing Workshops.

The Young Adult Creative Writing Workshops are four separate workshops geared at exposing young adults to the world of publishing. The workshops can be held as a series or conducted separately, either on-line or at your institution.

Workshop topics include:
  1. Discussion On Genres - What kind of stories do you read and write?
  2. Characterization & Plot - Learning the basics of writing a good story
  3. The Business Behind Writing - Information about the publishing industry, including helpful tips on editing, grammar, and punctuation
  4. ePublishing: Fact & Fiction - The inside scoop behind the growing phenomena NEW

What makes these workshops different than other creative writing programs?

Unlike most creative writing programs these workshops do not focus on the actual art of writing but offer insider insight into the world of literature and the publishing industry. The classes are geared toward opening up young minds and demystifying the world of writing by using real publishing terminology and breaking it down to an understandable format. Real life people who have experience in the publishing industry! Teens can get a glimpse behind the scenes and hear about what goes into making a book.*

Also, YACWW's loose and informal structure encourages teens to ask questions and interact in the discussion without feeling alienated or pressured.

Whether a young adult is writing for fun or in the beginning stages of a writing career or just curious to know more about books, the Young Adult Creative Writing Workshops are a wonderful way to introduce teens to a lifelong love of writing and reading books.
